A Thank You Letter, 8 Months Later
June 26, 2019 Chief James M. Hunt, Jr. Neptune Township Police Department 25 Neptune Blvd Neptune Township, NJ 07753 Bil Rosen, NRP Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management 25 Neptune Blvd Neptune Township, NJ 07753 Dear Chief Hunt and Bil Rosen, Eight months ago today, on October 26, 2018 the unimaginable happened when we found our 6 month old son Josiah, unresponsive in his crib. I have been meaning to write this letter for some time now however these last eight months have been extremely difficult and I am just now allowing myself to take the time to thank those who were there for us that night. Both the Neptune Police Department and the Neptune OEM should be commended. After my son's death I became obsessed with the timing in which everything happened. I watched our "Ring" doorbell footage over and over again writing down the times of when things occurred that night. I mention this because if you watched the videos you would see how fast your staff responded and you would and should be proud. My husband activated 911 at 5:48pm. The first responder, a plain clothed officer, arrived at 5:53pm...5 minutes from the time 911 was dialed. I would like to thank the first responder, I am unsure of his name however when he arrived he ran into my living room to find me giving my son chest compressions. He quickly began CPR with me and instructed me to give him rescue breaths, because he was there I was able to breath my own breath into my son's lungs, something I will never forget and value. At 5:55pm Neptune EMS arrived.....just 7 minutes from the time 911 was dialed. We are forever thankful to public safety officer, Tracey Newenhouse who arrived on the scene and took over caring for my son. As I watched the video I could see that Ms. Newenhouse carried my son out of our house in her arms...this image was such a blessing and comfort to me, seeing Josiah cared for by such a compassionate woman has helped me heal. I do not know if it is procedure for EMS to stay in the ER with who they bring in but all the EMS including Ms. Newenhouse stayed by my son's treatment room as the doctors and nurses worked on him. It was not until his death was confirmed that they left. Thank you Neptune EMS. The ambulance drove us to JSUMC ER in record time thanks to the Neptune Police Department who blocked off every light on Route 33 so that our ambulance did not have to hesitate once. Thank you. Once we arrived at the hospital a police officer was assigned to us, Tressa Huizenga. Although Ms. Huizenga knew me and my family she did not waver from performing her professional duty that night. She should be commended for her professionalism and compassion toward those she serves. Thank you Officer Huizenga. Our family can not thank you enough for the service your do for Neptune Township residents. Please share this with your officers, they should know that their hard work has not gone unnoticed. Sincerely, Amy Brown, Josiah's Momma | |
